Ziomara Morrison signs with San Antonio Silver Stars in WNBA (+VIDEO)
Ziomara Morrison, 1'93m and 23 year old post player from Chile, has signed this monday her first WNBA contract, becoming the first player in Chile history to achieve it and will join the San Antonio Silver Stars next April the 29th.
After considering different WNBA offers, finally Ziomara decided to sign with San Antonio, considering this option as the most likely to end up being part of the final roster and effectively contributing to the team.
San Antonio is a coached by Dan Hughes (WNBA Coach of the Year in 2001 & 2007 and only coach to take three different franchises to the WNBA playoffs) who also holds General Manager position.
The Silver Stars had during the 2011 season a 18-16 balance, reaching the Conference Semifinals and losing in the third game against the future champions, the Minnesota Lynx.
Once Ziomara finishes her season in Burgos (March the 24th), she will return to Chile, where she will prepare the Training Camp which will begin April the 29th, prior step to the official start of the WNBA season. In San Antonio´s case that will take place against Tulsa on May the 19th.
In San Antonio, Ziomara will find a very good backcourt, with players like Becky Hammon, Tully Bevilaqua, Jia Perkins, Shameka Christon, Danielle Robinson or Roneeka Hodges, all of them experienced players in the league.
The All-Star Sophia Young and Danielle Adams will repeat at the power forward position and also Jayne Appel at the Center position (theorically she should get Ruth Riley´s position, after Ruth left to the Chicago Sky).
Other post players will try to earn a position in the training camp, like Kalisha Keane, Ify Ibekwe, Latoya Williams and Porsha Phillips, who was already part of the post rotation during last season.
As it is known, neither in NBA or WNBA the players (except Kobe Bryant) have any control about their destiny once they have signed with a team and at any moment they can be traded or waived, so the initial roster drawing can be modified at any point.
Also, it is fair to consider than playing in the WNBA is much more difficult than in the NBA since in the WNBA there are only 12 franchises (the NBA has 30) and a maximum of 11 players in the final roster so only 132 players in the world can finally play in the WNBA.

So good luck then (she will put the hard work) for Ziomara Morrison in the next step of her career.
