Miriam Forasté debuts in Euroleague and Week 1 review
Miriam Forasté had her debut in Euroleague, contributing with 3 rebounds in 14 minutes in Ros Casares away win against Gyor, 80 to 73.
Miriam has had also some other great experiences during the preseason, including the victory against USA National Team 80-76, game in which Miriam scored 2 points, dished 2 assists and grabbed 1 rebound in 8 minutes and also in winning the 2011 Valencia League after scroing 20 points.
Euroleague First Week´s Review:
Lotos Gdynia lost in the first local game 57 to 68 against strong UMMC Ekaterimurg, where Anete Jekabsone , Sandrine Gruda and Deanna Nolan had 14 points each and Maria Stepanova had 11 points and 14 rebounds. Geraldine Robert was the best player in Javier Fort´s team with 17 points and 5 rebounds and Ivana Jalcova had 5 points and 2 steals in 23 minutes.
Bourges had a nice home win after defeating USK Prahe 63 to 51 and as in old times Celine Dumerc leaded the team with 15 points 5 rebounds and 5 assists, being helped by latvian Kublina (11), greek Kaltsidou (12) and solid Miyem who had 10 points and 9 rebounds.
In the czech squad, Delisha Milton Jones was the only player who shone with 20 points and 10 rebounds that weren´t enough to overcome the brilliant french first quarter (24-12).
Gyor started its Euroleague path, recieving at home the main favourite to win the Championship, spanish , Ciudad Ros Casares.
Natalia Hejkova´s player broke the game from the beguinning, shining specially Shay Murphy with 26 points and 9 rebounds and Ann Wauters with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
Young Miriam Forasté had her Euroleague debut, grabbing 3 rebounds in 14 minutes.
In Gyor, Iva Ciglar scored 15 points and dished 4 asissts and young Rita Rasheed scored 14 points to finish the game 80 to 63 for the spanish squad.
Diana Taurasi was the main star in Galatasaray´s first game, after scoring 7 three pointers of 7 attempts, adding also 8 rebounds and 6 asissts to finish with 31 points and lead the turkish team to the victory over VICI Aistes, 83 to 66.
Alba Torrens helped Diana with 18 points, while Tina Charles had 12.
Vita Kuktiene had 17 points and 6 rebounds and canadian Courtney Pilypaitis had 16 points and 7 rebounds for the Lithuanian Squad.
Uniqa Euroleasing Sopron gave no option to french Tarbes in game 1 after winning 77 to 58.
Only El Gargati helped Tarbes, answering with 18 points in a game that was already lost for the french at half time (42-22)
As she did in Spanish Super Cup, DeWanna Bonner proved that she is one of the best players in the world, scoring 21 points and grabbing 13 rebounds in the win against CCC Polkowice, where few players played at the level they are supposed to play, despite resisting with a brilliant Sharnee Zoll until half time (32-33), even until the end of the third quarter (43-49), but finally being swept in the last quarter until the final 52 to 74 for Perfumerias Avenida.
Beretta-Famila Scho had a good first game in Euroleague after defeating russian Nadezhda Orenburg 81 to 69 after a spectacular third quarter (31-5) for the italians.
Americans Cheryl Ford (19 points and 9 rebounds) and Janel McCarville (14 points 6 rebounds and 7 assists) were the key players for Schio, apart from the helpful 15 points and 8 assists of italian star Laura Macchi.
Aija Brumermane scored 4 points with 2/2 from the field and had 5 in efficiency in 12 minutes, backing up Cheryl Ford.
Nadezhda had her best player in Belarus post Verameyenka with 20 points and 9 rebounds.
Spartak Moscow Region, current Euroleague runner-up, started the season defeating Frisco Brno 87 to 70.
Serbians Sonja Petrovic and Jelena Milovanovic with 18 points and 8 rebounds and 17 points and 5 rebounds were the best players for the russian squad together with Belyakova who scored 15.
In the game with lowest scoring, Wisla Can Pack defeated the slovakian champion, Good Angels Kosice, 52 to 45.
Taranto lost all options to win against Lattes Monpellier in a disaster second quarter (28-14) that allowed the french team to win the game 82 to 65.
Edwige Lawson-Wade shone for Montpellier with 22 points and 6 rebounds, teaming with Sandra Dijon who had 17 points.
For Taranto, Michelle Greco scored 20 points and grabbed 5 rebounds and Elodie Godin had 13 points and 5 rebounds.
Coach Stipe Bralic continues having great results against spanish teams.
After defeating the Spanish National Team with Croatia in past Eurobasket, this time he defeated Rivas Ecopolis with Gospic 69 to 74.
Rivas recieved a hard hit after losing Amaya Valdemoro in the first quarter (double wrist fracture that will have her two months out of the competition) but however they managed to resist until the end of the third quarter (53-52). A good fourth quarter of Gospic gave the win to the croatians despite Aysha Jones 19 points and 6 rebounds and Essence Carson´s 13 points and 7 rebounds.
Laura Nicholls, who is having a more important role this season, partially because of Iva Sliskovic´s absence, had a good game with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
Julie McBride guided Gospic to the win and also poured 15 points. Croatian natioanl team starters Sandra Mandir and Jelena Ivezic had 12 points and 6 rebounds and 12 points and 7 rebounds and a healthy Marija Vrsaljko had 10 points and 5 rebounds.
Kalisha Keane played her first game with Gospic, scoring 8 points and grabbing 5 rebounds in 25 minutes meanwhile Eva Komplet had 6 points in 16 minutes.
