The second round of Euroleague brought an away game for Gospic against one of the favourites to win the competition, turkish powerhouse Fenerbahce.
Gospic was most of the game competing even though in the last quarter finally Fenerbahce broke the game ending with a 109-92 result.
Maurita Reid excelled for Gospic with 28 points (8/12 field goals , 2/4 three pointers , 6/6 free throws) and 5 steals. She found help in Sandra Mandir with 17 points and in Marija Vrsaljko and Michelle Maslowski with 16 each.
As usual, Diana Taurasi was the big star and top scorer of this Euroleague round two with 34 points and 7 assists. Nevriye Yilmaz and Penny Taylor also had a good game with 22 points and 7 rebounds and 15 points respectively.
After this game, Gospic has a 0-2 record but has faced a really hard Schedule. They had her first Euroleague game against probably the strongest team in the competition, Ekaterinburg, and Maurita was also a leader for Gospic with 20 points and 5 rebounds.
Maurita Reid was the top scorer in Polish League last season and this year she is proving that she can do the same against the best teams in Europe. She is also averaging 16,6 points (70% from the field) 4,4 rebounds 5,8 assists and 3,4 assists per game in Adriatic League.
Other Regeneracom players have had presence in Euroleague this week.
Cras Basket Taranto defeated TTT Riga 72 to 49 and for Riga the best player was again Shavonte Zellous with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Shavonte is currently averaging 21 points and 4 rebounds after having an impressive performance against Pecs 2010 in the first round with 24 points (9/12 from the field 1/3 three pointers and 3/3 free throws).
It was also Pecs 2010 who was close to beating Wisla Krakow in an away game but finally lost 70-68.
Wisla´s frontcourt starters had a good game with 17 points and 6 rebounds by Janell Burse and 15 and 6 for Kobryn. Kelsey Griffin was the best player for Pecs with 16 poins and 6 rebounds and also Dalma Ivanyi and Allie Quiegly contributed. Zsofia Fegyverneky played almost the entire game and also Kristina Raksanyi and Nikolett Turoczi had her role.
MBK Euroleasing Sopron impressed with a 82-52 win against Rivas Ecopolis, one of the best spanish teams with Dewanna Bonner, Amaya Valdemoro or Courtney Paris.
Tijana Krivacevic was the best player for Sopron with 20 points and 5 rebounds and had good inside help in Zane Tamane with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Sopron imports also had a good contribution. Angel McCoughtry had 16 points and 6 rebounds and Amber Holt had 10 points.
In Rivas, only Dewanna Bonner lived up to the expectations with 17 points and 9 boards.
