María Asurmendi has signed with Perfumerías Avenida Salamanca
Spanish point guard María Asurmendi has signed
for the remainder of season 2015-16 with Perfumerías Avenida, currently leader
of the Spanish First Division League, with a record of 18 wins and just one
María joins Perfumerías Avenida after
being crowned Spanish Queen's Cup 2016 Champions with C.B. Conquero two weeks
ago, a club she joined last season and with who she reached the Final of the
Queen's Cup 2015 and the Semifinals of Liga Femenina 2015-16, averaging 7.3
points, 2.8 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 2.2 steals and +10.9 efficiency, being the
forth best player in assists and the seventh best player in steals per game of
María Asurmendi's debut will be on the 28th of February in Madrid against CREF HOLA, in the 20th round of the
Spanish First Division League.
María Asurmendi, with 1.67 meters and born in
1986, has a wide knowledge of Liga Femenina because she has already played nine years in the highest Spanish Division, as a starting point guard in most of them.
In Salamanca, Asurmendi will share the locker
room with Leonor Rodríguez and will bring further experience to Perfumerías
Avenida, as they aim for Spanish Champions.
The debut of María Asurmendi in LF2 came in the
2004-05 season with Public University of Navarra, having spent his formative
years in Club Larraona. In her debut year with UPN averaged 11 points, 2.3
steals and +10 efficiency.
In the 2005-06 season she played with
Irlandesas, where she averaged 13.2 points, 2.1 assists, 4.3 steals and +14.8
efficiency. They finished fourth, which meant that they were to play the finals
in Rivas, where she averaged 10.7 points and 3.7 rebounds in three games.
The following season, 2006-07, was her jump
Spanish Liga Femenina, where she played with Arranz-Jopisa Burgos which
finished in third place in the league and reached the semifinal of the Queen's
An injury prevented her from playing much of
the season, but her great season and progression led her to be called to the
U-21 World Cup Moscow where they finished in ninth position.
In the 2007-08 season she went to Arousa,
playing with Extrugasa. Again, she played in the Queen's Cup and the reached

European competition, playing the EuroCup Women with Extrugasa, playing a total
of ten games.
The 2009-10 season, she returned to Navarre and
LF2, playing with one of the great teams, the UNB Obenasa Navarra, in which she
averaged 7.7 points, 3.1 assists and 2.2 +9.9 steals for efficiency, to finish
first in the group B.
In the final game in Arousa, they secured
they´re position in the first division. In this game, María scored 8 points
with 6 assists and 6 steals for +18 efficiency.
In the following two years, she played in the
Liga Femenina with UNB Obenasa Lacturale, scoring an average of 6.5 points 6
and +5.7 and +4.7 efficiency respectively.
In the 2012-13 season, also in the UNB Obenasa
in Liga Femenina, she averaged 7.9 points, 3.5 assists (fourth in ranking) and
+10.1 efficiency, finishing in sixth position.
In the playoffs, averaged 13.7 +11.7 efficiency
with three matches.
This past season, 2013-14, with Cadi - ICG
Software, she has averaged 8.2 points, 2.5 assists and +10.3 efficiency.
Finishing the season in the top 8 for assists per game.
María played well against Conquero with 19
points and +23 efficiency; against Gran Canaria with 16 points, 3 assists and
+20 efficiency; in the game against Ibaizabal with 11 points, 10 rebounds, 6
assists and +20 efficiency.
María Asurmendi signed with C.B. Conquero
Huelva Wagen in Spain 1st division during the 2014-15 season, averaging 7.4
points, 2.9 rebounds and +10.8 of efficiency in 30.9 minutes per game.
María Asurmendi played well against Campus
Promete with 25 points, 3 rebounds and +30 of efficiency, against Ferrol with
10 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists and +19 of efficiency and against Cadi La Seu
with 7 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and +19 of efficiency.
María reached the Queen´s Cup Final and the
Liga Femenina Semifinal last season.
In the 2015-16 season Maria Asurmendi resigned with C.B. Conquero where
she averaged 5.3 points, 2.6
rebounds, 4.1 assists, 1.5 steals, and +8.0 efficiency per game and won the 2016 Queen's
Cup beating in the Final to Perfumerías Avenida.
