Leonor Rodríguez signs with Perfumerías Avenida Salamanca
Spanish shooting guard Leonor Rodriguez has decided to return to Europe after finishing her career at Florida State and has signed with Perfumerías Avenida Salamanca, current Spanish League Champion and with who she will make her debut in Euroleague.
Last tuesday, the Spanish Federation also announced that Leonor was in the last 15 players that under coach Lucas Mondelo will compete for a spot in the 2013 European Championship, after a superb career in youth teams, winning Gold and Silver Medal in the U16, Gold in the U18, Silver in World Championship U19 , Gold and Silver in U20 and twice in the First Team.
Leonor Rodríguez is currently in Tallahassee finishing her last exams and today Wednesday her family flew there to live her graduation, a very special moment.
Leonor will be back to Spain on May the 10th and will join the Spanish National Team the 14th.
One step more for Leonor Rodríguez who is well prepared and highly motivated with the new challenges in her career.
Leonor Rodríguez is a 1.80m international shooting guard born in 1991 with an amazing career both at the Club and National Team level and with US experience after playing for 4 years at Florida State where she averaged 14.9 points 3.6 rebounds 3.2 assists and 2 steals per game.
As a young player, Leonor Rodríguez dominated at will all the Championships, being 4 times Spanish Champion, 4 times top scorer in the Spanish Championship, 5 times best passer, 3 times MVP of the Championship and once Final´s MVP.
With C.B.Islas Canarias, Leonor also won 12 Gold Medals in the Canarias Championship and 7 Gold Medals in the Gran Canaria Championship.
Leonor had her debut in Spanish Liga Femenina being just 16 years and 6 days old and in her first seson averaged 4.7 points and 5.3 efficiency in 15 minutes per game with C.B.Islas Canarias during the 2007-08 season.
Leo shone in the win against Cadí la Seu with 12 points and 10 effiency, had 9 points and 12 efficiency in 16 minutes in the win against Rivas, 17 points and 21 efficiency in the win against Mann Filter and 16 points 8 rebounds 8 drawn fouls and 22 efficiency in the win against Extrugasa.
In the 2008-09 season, Leonor Rodriguez stayed in Canarias, averaging 6.2 points and 5.5 efficiency in 17 minutes per game.
Leo shined with 15 points and 16 efficiency against Extrugasa, 24 points and 22 efficiency against Cadí La Seu, 17 points 8 drawn fouls and 21 efficiency against Mann Filter and 19 points and 22 efficiency in the win against Rivas.
Once the season finished, Leonor Rodríguez accepted a full scholarship in Florida State University and joined the Seminoles in the 2009-10 season.
At FSU, Leonor has worked hard and improved year after year to finish an extraordinary 2012-13 season averaging 14.9 points 3.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists with 45.1% from the filed and 34.3% from the 3 point range.
Leonor has played in the ACC conference, one of the toughest in NCAA and has been named in the ACC First Team in the 2012-13 season.
Florida State had a very good season with 23 wins and 10 losses and was eliminated in the NCAA Tournament in the second round by Britney Griner´s Baylor, being ranked as the 20th best team in NCAA 2012-13.
Leonor Rodríguez was impressive against Florida with 21 points, Iowa with 28 points and 6 assists, 24 points and 4/4 three pointers against Nebraska, 23 points and 5 rebounds against Georgia Tech, 19 points and 8 rebounds against Wake Forest, 21 points and 7 assists against Miami, 26 points against North Carolina State or 22 points in the win against North Carolina.
Leonor Rodríguez has also been a key piece in the big success of Spanish National Youth teams.
Leonor played the U16 European Championship in 2006, winning the Gold Medal. She also played the same competition in 2007, averaging 16.6 points 6.3 rebounds and 5 assists per game, with 25 points 9 rebounds 5 assists and 5 steals in the Final against France to finally win the Silver Medal and be named in the Championship First Team.
In 2008, Leonor played the U18 European Championship, averaging 11.5 points 2.9 rebounds and 2.3 steals in 24 minutes per game and again in 2009 she revenged of France winning the Gold Medal and averaging 15.3 points and 3.4 rebounds per game with 22 points in the Final.
Leonor was also named in the U18 European Championship First Team.
In 2009, Leo also won the Silver Medal in the U19 World Championship with 11.6 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.
In 2010 she also won the Silver Medal in the U20 European Championship with 11 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.
The 2011 U20 European Championship was her last experience with Spanish Youth National Teams and she won the Gold Medal after averaging 8.7 points 3.8 rebounds and 3 assists in 22 minutes per game.
In the 2012 summer, Leonor Rodríguez is invited with the senior Spanish National Team.
Apart from her sports awards, Leonor has also received the Golden Nole Award in 2012 and 2013 (for her commitment to excellence in sport, class and community) by Florida State University, the Matthew Schumauch Leadership Award in 2012 and 2013, Diploma "Canarian in the Elite" in 2010 and also was Academic Honor Roll in 2010.
