After the broad defeat in the first day of the Jolly JBS Sibenik against UMMC Ekaterinburg, the croats were at home at the Union Hainaut Basket (formerly USVO Mondeville). Kerri Gardin, represented by Regeneracomsports, was the most outstanding player of the match, finishing with 28 points, 11 rebounds and 3 three points shots fail after only 4 shots throughout the match.
The french team had won by 16 points in the first day at USK Praha, which in turn defeated in this second day to one of the favorites of the competition, the spanish Ros Casares, for 15 points of difference. Jolly Sibenik taked over the reins of the match from the start, ahead 16-4 midway through the first quarter, which would retain advantage at the end of the same (31-19).
A partial 7-0 at the start of the second quarter did see the french team that this was not their match and after completing a very good first hand the croats were going to outfit with a decisive 60-36 on the scoreboard. Kerri Gardin was the key player for Sibenik throughout the match but especially in this first part because got scoring 21 points in the first two quarters.
On the resumption Jolly Sibenik benefits dropped their usual result of a relaxation given the cushion of available and the French took pride, reaching close to being 75-68 just over a minute. However, until there came Sibenik and took its first Euroleague victory with a final result of 79-70.
For the local addition to the 28 points and 11 rebounds for Kerri Gardin stressed the U.S. point guard Constance Jinks with 15 points, 8 rebounds and 12 assists and Ivana Jurcevic with 6 three points shots and 18 points. Hainaut Basket in Union, perhaps the only player who gave her level was the belgian international Kathy Wamba with 16 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists.
The french team has players in their ranks with domestic level as the first player congolese Mudju Ngoyisa (Indiana Fever, WNBA), the ex-WNBA Tiffany Stansbury, as well as the swedish European player drafted this year (No. 21, San Antonio) Chioma Nnamaka, the croatian Vedrana Grgin Fonseca or french players Reghaissia, Beikes and Palio.
Stipe Bralic, coach of Sibenik highlighted as the key big first half of his team, saying that scoring 60 points in 20 minutes against a great team like Union Hainaut is a great success. He also said to be aware that during the second part would have problems because french is a team with a rotation of 10 players while their squad is shorter.
For his part, the french coach Fabrice Courcier congratulated the croatian and acknowledged the difficulties in defending Gardin and Jinks. After this victory, the Jolly Sibenik will receive USK Prague the next day on October 29.
Upon completion of the first two rounds, Kerri Gardin averaged 19.5 points (ninth highest scorer of the competition), 9.5 rebounds (seventh in ranking) with rates of 48% in two points shots field and 29% in three points shots (2.5 annotated per game to be a player inside).
