César Rupérez, Head Coach of Shanxi in the 2015-16 Qualifying Round

Our coach César Rupérez has signed a new contract with Shanxi Riu Flame and since March the 9th he is working as head coach of the Chinese champion only to play the Qualifying Round for the 2015-16 WCBA.

Chinese League set a new curious rule that says that all teams (including the Champion) must play a qualifying round to be able to play next year´s first division.  In that round, the teams are not able to use their american players or the players that they have on loan from other teams.

Lucas Mondelo, the Shanxi Riu Flame and César Rupérez agree that César would be the team´s head coach during this round that will have him playing his first game in March 16,17 and 18.

César Rupérez is an experienced Spanish coach with an interesting curriculum that includes moving to Spanish 1st division with Navarra and 3 Gold Medals and 1 Silver Medal in the U20 European Championships 2010,2011,2012 and 2013, 1 Silver Medal in the 2014 World Championship and 3 Chinese Leagues as assistant of Lucas Mondelo.

Cesar started his coaching career in men basketball, coaching until 2005 Alvecón Maristas in Spanish EBA League.

In the 2007-08 season, César Rupérez signs with Obenasa Navarra, playing Spanish Liga Femenina 2 for 3 years, including 2 playoffs and moving to 1st division in 2010.

From 2010-2012, César Rupérez coaches UNB Obenasa Lacturale in Spanish 1st division and in the 2012-13 season he signs in China, to play the WCBA with Shanxi Rui Flame together with coach Lucas Mondelo.

César Rupérez has been working also as assistant coach with Spanish National Team youth teams.

In the 2010 summer, César wins the Silver Medal in the U20 European Championship in Latvia.

One year later in Novi Sad 2011 he takes one more step and also together with Lucas Mondelo wins the Gold Medal in the U20 European Championship.
